Ecological Adventures Manu Tour Details

Manu Expeditions

Our three days Ecological Adventures Manu Expeditions is ideal for those wanting to experience the best of the Peruvian Amazon Rainforest in a short time. This Manu Expeditions itinerary is carefully designed to offer you the best Amazon Experience.

Amazon Rainforest is the largest lowland tropical rainforest in the world. Manu National Park is the most visited part of the Peruvian Amazon. This is primarily because of its close proximity to Cusco City which lets travellers experience the lowland rainforest region before or after their trip to Machu Picchu.

Manu National Park is massive. It is spread over 1.532.806 hectares. It is divided into three zones – Core Zone, Manu Biosphere Reserve and Cultural Zone.

The core zone is restricted to scientists and researchers. The Reserved Zone is a popular tourist attraction and so is the cultural zone which offers an overview of the life of the natives.

Manu National Park is home to over 30 Quechua speaking native indigenous tribes. They are untouched by modernity and maintain their age-old traditions and customs. Manu has tiers of lush tropical region rising from 150 metres above sea level all the way up to 4200 metres.

Why Machu Picchu Amazon Peru?

We are a local Manu Ecological tour operator. We offer a high-quality service coupled with a comfortable jungle lodge. Our guides are locals from the Amazonian region.

Itinerary

Manu Expeditions

Day 1Cusco - Paucartambo - Pilcopata Lodge

We will be picking you up from your hotel in Cusco. Then in our private transport, we will be driving you from Andes to Amazon. As this is a long journey, we will have a couple of stops at some interesting spots.

Our first stop will be at a small village named Ninamarca. It is home to a Pre-Incan funeral tomb from Lupaca civilization. Our guide will be giving you a detailed tour and explain the significance of the tombs.

We will then continue our drive to the colonial town named Paucartambo. It houses beautiful colonial churches. Locals know it as the folkloric town. People in Paucartambo have preserved their age-old traditions and customs and still continue to converse in Quechua.

From here, we will be driving up the hill to Acjanaco Pass. It is at 3550 metres above sea level and is the entrance to the highland forest of Manu National Park. We will be continuing our drive further uphill to the viewpoint – Tres Cruces at 3700 metres. From here you will have a panoramic view of the Amazon Basin.

We will then begin our descent to Manu National Park. In this section, we will be passing through the elfin forest and then cloud forest. Here we will stop for a while and walk into the woods to spot the Peruvian National Bird – The Andean Cock of the Rock. The region is also home to different species of birds like the hummingbirds, trogons, quetzals and more.

Once you have had your fill of the beautiful sights here, we will descend to Pilcopata at 700 metres above sea level. Here we will be accommodating you in a jungle lodge.

Day 2Cusco - Pilcopata Lodge - Atalaya Port - Manu National Park

Early in the morning after a typical Amazonian breakfast, we will be driving you to Atalaya port. From here, we will be embarking on a motorboat for a journey through Madre de Dios river to our jungle lodge.

The boat ride offers beautiful views of the rainforest. On the shores, you will be able to see many animals and also do some bird watching. Our crew will assist you with check-in as we will reach the jungle lodge. After a typical Amazonian lunch, we will set out to explore the trails around the lodge.

On this short walk, you will get to see different species of medicinal plants including San Pedro Cacti. Later in the evening, we will explore the beauty of Machu Wasi lake on a typical native wooden raft. You will get to see many distinct birds and animals. Typically you will be spotting hoatzins, black caimans, reptiles and more.

After sunset, we will be returning to the lodge for dinner. After dinner, we will go on a night tour to spot some nocturnal animals and insects.

We will then return to the lodge.

Day 3Pilcopata Lodge - Atalaya Port - Cusco City

At daybreak, we will be traveling for 10 minutes to see the parrots’ clay lick. It is an unmissable sight when you visit Manu National Park. Over a hundred distinctly colored parrots and Macaws fly to eat the clay.

The clay here contains a distinct mineral salt that helps these birds to flush out the toxins from their body.

After this, we will be returning to the lodge for breakfast. Then we will sail back on the Manu River to Atalaya port where our driver will be waiting with the van to transfer us back to Cusco. We will be reaching Cusco by 07:30 PM.
